Buxton Museum and Art Gallery will be closed temporarily from 5pm on Friday 20 March until further notice, to fall in line with the government’s advice on protecting people from contracting the coronavirus. We have also cancelled all of our events.

To stay updated, follow us on WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Staff will still be answering questions and you can get in touch by emailing buxton.museum@derbyshire.gov.uk

Buxton Museum is part of the local community and we enjoy regular visits from people who come in to use the computers, see the latest exhibitions, take part in events or lend us their expertise as a volunteer. It is with heavy hearts that we close the doors but it is for that same reason that the decision has been made.

It is a particular regret that you will not get to see our latest exhibition Between Two Worlds which has been very well-received but we will try to create an online version.

So what else will the museum staff do whilst the place is closed? The answer is that there’s plenty to do! We will give the place a good clean and tidy, revamp the gift shop, put some more exhibitions online for you to enjoy at home, continue to document the museum collection and of course, keep you updated.

We hope it will not be too long before we can open the doors again and let you experience the diverse heritage of the Peak District. In the meantime, stay safe.
